Music Week Part 2

March 20, 2012

Next up during music week was a really fun Yelp party! Luckily Walker volunteered for the event and got me on the VIP list with him. That just meant we got to skip the line, but that was pretty cool! Anyhow they had free food, drinks, and various goodies all around. There was music, hula hooping, some games, a vintage pop-up shop. It was quite fun. The weather was mostly good too, I was glad it was overcast but it was a little too humid for my taste. Ug, sweaty face. I resisted the hula hooping for as long as I could but finally gave in near the end of the party, I was glad I did. It takes me back to the days I would hula hoop in my living room for as many songs as I could in a row. I bet that was GREAT exercise.

Music Week Part 1

March 19, 2012

So SXSW was here this week and I didn’t do a whole lot but I’m sharing the few events I did attend. The free events that is. The first year Katie and I moved here (Katie is my best friend from Michigan-we moved here together) we thought it would be fun to get wristbands so we could see more. That was super silly because all the events we actually could get into were free so that was a bit of a learning curve for us. Since then we’ve figured out that the free events is where it’s at and you can actually see quite a bit of you have the time and dedication. I have a lot less of both these days to things like this but I put in the effort when it’s something I would really like to see. These pictures are of Ben Kweller. My love of Ben Kweller will have to wait for another post because it’s extensive and spans over 10 years. He lives here in Austin so you’d think he’d play a lot here but he sort of doesn’t so whenever he does I do by best to make it. This was one of those times. I was trilled to find a spot up front since being any farther back and under 5ft tall makes seeing much nearly impossible. He put on a great show and I had a wonderful time and was so glad I made the effort.

Weekend Breakfast is Best

March 18, 2012

I love eating breakfast! Sadly during the week I don’t have time to cook elaborate and delicious breakfasts so it usually ends up being more of an European style breakfast with salami, cheese, and bread. Still quite good but I also really like to cook. So on the weekends I try to make a larger breakfast at least once. This weekend I made scrambled eggs with asparagus, arugula, potatoes, and onions with chives on top, cherry wood smoked bacon, buttermilk and currant scones (kind of a specialty of mine at this point), and fresh squeezed orange juice. Yum! It was so delicious! I love how in the last photo you can see the flecks of pepper Walker was sprinkling over my plate. What do you like to cook on the weekends?
