Winter Snow

I was born and raised and Michigan but now I live in Texas and one of the things I miss most about winter is the snow. I don’t necessarily miss digging my car out of a snow bank and having it creep into my boots and up my sleeves but I miss the magical feeling when snow is falling. I miss the stillness of a cold winter night with fresh fallen snow that has been nearly untouched. I miss making snowballs and throwing them at nothing in particular. I miss all the possibilities that snow holds.

So far this winter it hasn’t gotten all that cold and we’ve had no snow at all. This made me even more excited to go home for Christmas and see my first winter snow. Sadly the ground was not covered in a blanket of white but there was snow in the forecast and my fingers were crossed that this would not change. Late into the evening of my second night in Michigan is started to snow! It was coming straight down and it was pretty magical indeed. All the Christmas lights on the street were lit and with the snow falling I felt like I was in a snow globe. I stood outside for a bit, mesmerized, until the cold got to me and I had to go cozy up inside.

It snowed on one other day while I was home so I suggested a walk through the woods. It’s so peaceful in the woods behind my dad’s house. It’s full of dead ferns from the fall and all sorts of evergreen trees and various hardwoods. My favorite spot is this little stream that runs across the walking path. It had iced over but you could see the water running and bubbling underneath. I could have spent the whole day here just relaxing and enjoying the quite woods. Just me and my thoughts.
