(Linking up with The Pleated Poppy)
A few months ago I purchased a rather unattractive dress for $1 at a garage sale. I tried it on and it fit me but the style of the dress was so unflattering. Normally I would have just passed it by but I loved the pattern so much and I could see a lot of potential for it to be a really cute mini dress. Also for a dollar I couldn’t really go wrong. Worst case scenario I’m out a buck. I took a few before pictures. The worst part was the strange collar tie.
First I removed the collar and then I opened up the seems to make more of a boat neck so that the dress didn’t feel as if it were choking me. I had to cut off part of the zipper in the back and add some large pleats in the back and front to account to the extra fabric. I then finished up all the seams that needed finishing around the neck. Then I drastically shortened the length of the skirt. Before it was nearly to my ankles so I took it up a few inches above my knees. I was going for a mini dress look, kind of mod. I had thought about shortening the sleeves but then decided to leave them as is. Here is the final product.
