Swimming in barton springs

June 28, 2012

As my days in Austin are dwindling to an end I am determined to spend my time doing high quality activities and having quality time with friends. So far I have been pretty successful. The other day my friend picked me up from work and we headed over to Barton Springs which, as you may know, is a pretty quintessential Austin landmark. It was good timing too as it was the hottest day we’ve had yet. I figured the place would be crawling with people but I was pleasantly surprised that it was not.

I’ve been to Barton Springs a few times over the years but one last trip was essential. We posted up on the hill and took the most refreshing dip in the water. The contrast nearly takes your breath away as the water is always 68 degrees F and it was about 107 degrees F outside. We swam around a bit until we were cooled then dried off in the sun on our towels and did it all over again. The whole experience was made even better by the musicians behind us playing what reminded me of the soundtrack to a French film. Lovely.

For my final days in Austin I need to focus on just enjoying myself. Often times when I’m leaving a place I’ve been for a while I find myself running around like a crazy person trying to do so many things. I think in a way it’s a distraction for me to focus on all of my unnecessary to do’s but I’d like to not do that this time.  For instance I probably don’t need to run all over town visiting all the places that I have memories of. I probably don’t need to buy cheese cloth and collect figs for a recipe I want to try once I’m in Michigan. I’m even allowing myself to not make jewelry for a few days so I can really be present with my friends and myself. So here is to my last few high quality days in Austin.

This transition phase

June 15, 2012

I’m in a transition phase right now. I just got back from Seattle and I’m leaving Texas at the end of the month. I’m ready to go but I have 2 weeks until that happens. My roommate and I moved out of our wonderful apartment at the end of May and she actually took over Walker’s 1 bedroom apartment. It just made sense that I would stay there with her until I left. So now this 1 bedroom apartment is full of all of our things.

It only made sense for Katie to take over the bedroom since she’ll be staying for a year or 2 so I set up a temporary camp in the living room. I tried my best to make it cozy but since it’s hard to cram so much stuff in a small space it’s a bit hectic and maybe not the best sleeping space. Especially since I’m also surrounded by my work and work space. It’s also a bit frustrating since I keep realizing I’ve packed away things I need right now and the last thing I want to do is go digging for them in boxes stuffed in a closet. So I guess I will be going belt free for now.

So this is my life right now and I wanted to share.

Next week I have a little idea in mind that I’m pretty excited about. I thought since I’m leaving Texas soon it would be fun to recap my experience here since I wasn’t blogging at that time. I will be sharing pictures, stories, maybe feelings and so on. So check in next week! Happy Friday!

So many “to do’s”

May 30, 2012

With all of the moving and such my time has been spread pretty thin. It seems like there is an endless list of things to do for moving, for my upcoming trip, for Walker’s permanent move, for the end of the month, for my business, and on and on. I’m sure we all feel like this some days. Just when I finish my list a new one is being formed in my head. Ah! I keep waiting for the day when I won’t have a list but I think I’m realizing that is not going to happen. So instead I need to be better at getting the thoughts out of my head and being even more efficient with my time. I’m working on it.

I did just finally give in and purchase an iPhone. I’m hoping this will help me to keep better lists and keep more of my ideas on “paper” rather than floating around in my head and keeping me from focusing on what actually is important or relevant at the time.

So what’s relevant right now? Walker and I are flying to Seattle tomorrow morning! If I can figure out this instagram thing by tomorrow I can share our journey! I’ll be back in Texas mid June but Walker will be there to stay. I’m not sure I’ve quite processed that yet.

Well I suppose I better get back to my pre-travel preparations! I hope you’re day is going well.
