Goodbye old apartment!

September 30, 2013

We’ve moved but before I share too much about the new place I wanted to say goodbye to the old one (I tend to get pretty sentimental about things). Also we’re still setting up our new place but I’ll share when we’re settled in a bit more. We started moving on Wednesday with the help of friends and moved more things on Thursday and some more things on Friday and yesterday Walker and I took 2 bikes trips to get the remaining things and say goodbye-well I was saying goodbye, Walker was just getting the stuff. Our place was full of vintage charm and had 2 big beautiful windows in the living room that made you feel like you were in a tree house. The hummingbirds loved the trees out front and I would watch them fly around doing what they do. It’s easy to wonder if you’re making the right choices as you’re making them but I think we were ready for a move. It was a little sad saying goodbye to the first place we’ve lived together though. But onto the next thing right? Onto a guest room/studio, a backyard with a garden, a garage that we can do any number of things in, a quieter neighborhood for peaceful evening walks (when it’s not pouring out which is basically has been all weekend long).

Goodbye 1 bedroom apartment in capitol hill! Maybe we’ll walk by and visit from time to time but chances are not as often as we’d like.

We’re moving!

This week we are moving. I had a few posts planned but I’m pretty sure Walker packed my camera cord so I can’t download any photos. I guess that’s what happens when I turn my back on him. This moving with a partner thing is pretty new for me and one I’ve had a bit of a hard time with because of my wanting complete control.

When we first moved here Walker came first and I joined him later so we didn’t actually have to move together. This time all of our stuff is together and we have drastically different ways of packing. Mine is more controlled and like stuff gets packed with like stuff and there’s a method to it. Also I wrap my things and tape the bottom of my boxes. Walker on the other hand just throws stuff into boxes from wherever. If it needs to be packed it just goes in an unmarked box. He also insists that we just take everything and after we move then go through things and find what to get rid of. He also doesn’t tape the bottom of boxes.

As you can see we pack and move very differently. It’s been hard to not just get really frustrated (which I have) and blow up at him (which I have) but we have actually been able to calm down and actually discuss things. The result is both of us giving in a little. Walker thinking a little bit more about packing something and letting things go and me giving up some of the control and trusting Walker. Just because he does it differently doesn’t mean it’s wrong. As he reminded me earlier this week, he’s moved many time and it’s always worked out just fine. Alright, alright.

I’ll be back in a couple of days once I find that camera cord.

Things changing and staying the same

January 15, 2013

This past week I took a little break and went to Austin. It had been about 6 months since I moved and I have been missing my friends and familiar places and of course the Texas sun. It gave me a little bit of time to reflect on change. The changes that have taken place in my life in the last few months and the changes that are ahead for me. With so much uncertainty it is nice for me to see a few things that have stayed just the same.

{My best friend currently lives in Walker’s old apartment-which I mentioned a while back-and there are still a few things just as Walker left them. She might be embarrassed by that fact but to her credit she is barely there and when Walker moved out and we moved in it was pretty hectic and not everything was sorted out. It was nice to walk around the apartment and remember little moments.}

I’ll be sharing a bit more of my trip later this week.
