Girls Day Out!

February 21, 2012

With Walker out of town I thought a girl day was in order. Before the fun could begin I had a few things to drop off at the post office (always working, sigh). We stopped at the yarn shop first so I could get some new yarn to make a hat for the Utah skiing/snowboarding trip. Woo! Then we headed to the outdoor mall. We tried on clothes. Then we tried on lipstick at M.A.C. that was truly fun and well timed since it poured while we were inside. Luckily it let up as we made our way to the car-where were our umbrellas? Oh yes in the car, that’s helpful. With our new lipsticks on we headed to see a girly movie-The Vow at the Alamo drafthouse. We sat back, enjoyed the show and our food (we had worked up quite the appetite). Then we all parted ways. I did play around with my new lipsticks a bit more once I got home. The best part! They smell like candy.

Date Night Idea

February 20, 2012

Recently I wrote about Walker and I’s Special Night. Basically that we celebrated a Valentine’s of sorts but on the 13th and it was very low key with homemade macaroni and cheese and brownies. Since we celebrated on the 13th the idea was that nothing would be done on the 14th. I tried and tried and tried to be ok with this. Like I said I’m trying to let go of girly idea of Valentine’s Day. All day I was secretly hoping for some small surprise. Maybe some flowers or a chocolate bar? Just saying. So when Walker came over later with nothing I tried to hide my moping but I’m not so good at that. Then Walker suggested a walk over to the drug store cause he was in need of some throat drops (oh yeah he was not feeling well and I was the one moping). He knows I love to take walks so I tried to perk up and be excited about the mini adventure. Once we got there he asked if I’d like to head over to the food co-op and wander around. We hopped on the motorcycle and headed to the store. On the way there we came up with a plan, a way for me to get a bit of a surprise. We would go in the store with a spending limit, $8 in this case, and pick out little things that each other would like. Then when we got home we’d surprise each other with the little gifts. We split up and thoughtfully picked out items while keeping our budget in mind. I had so much fun picking things out and trying not to let Walker see any of them (it’s not a huge place). We had out goodies packed up in little paper bags so no peeks could be had and headed home. We exchanged bags and oh what a good job he did! I told him this may be the first time he’s beat me in gift giving. I was very happy indeed.

(My favorite part! Dried roses from the bulk section-I got flowers after all! )

(He loves mushrooms-I hate them)

(His tea and my roses)

-We had so much fun doing this and I’ve been recommending it to everyone. I think it would be great for anyone- couples, sisters, friends, mom-daughter, dad-son, anyone. It’s so fun really! If this inspires you please let me know your story. I would love to hear how it went!

Rainy Night and Gelato

February 19, 2012

It’s been raining a lot here lately which has been fun. I’m trying to enjoy it as much as I can since I will miss it sooo much once the hot hot summer arrives. The other night I had decided no matter what I’d like to go get some gelato at a place a few blocks from my apartment. There are so many great places near by and I very rarely go. I figured it was time to treat myself. My roommate was feeling the same so she joined in. It was only lightly raining on the way there and then poured while we were eating our treats.Luckily it wasn’t pouring on our way back but maybe that would have been alright too. We took our time getting home and played with leaves in puddles and raced them down rain “rivers”. My leaf won I’m pretty sure. I was glad to get home though, my boots have started to wear through the bottom and my socks were soaked. Ew!

(Katie was a little jealous that my gelato flavors turned out to be her favorite color combination.)
