Our vintage trailer by the beach

March 14, 2013

One of the reasons I really pushed to have our beach weekend was so we could stay at a place called The Sou’wester. I stumbled upon it while doing a random search on line and I got super excited to stay there. They have a small lodge with 4 rooms for rent, a few cabins, and the best part-vintage trailers for rent!

All the trailers have a vintage vibe and look so cute on their site! We chose a larger one to fit 4 adults and a dog but if Walker and I go back we’ll be staying in a mini one for 2. I love small things!

What I loved best was that it was even better in person than online-things are usually the other way around. They had bikes for us to borrow and even clamming equipment which saved us from buying our own. During this off season it was quite inexpensive to stay.

Of course we couldn’t head out without a super goofy photo shoot.

{I have a few more photos to share tomorrow and then we’ll move on I suppose.}

Adventure to the beach: a brewery and clamming

March 13, 2013

More of our weekend at the beach.

The entire trip was centered around going clamming, luckily the dig was approved for the weekend we were there! Woo! The best time to look for clams is a couple of hours before evening low tide so to waste time we headed a half an hour from the beach to Aurora, OR and Fort George brewery.

The sun was out and it was almost warm so we sat on their patio and tried nearly all the beers they had to offer, sample style-my favorite. After having a sufficient amount of beer we headed back to the beach to get our clam on.

It was quite the adventure. We didn’t really know what we were looking for, this being our first time, but we did get a helpful hint along the way. We were told to look for doughnut like shapes in the sand and also dimples. You also had to walk all funny in order to get them to show in the sand. We went a long while without seeing a thing. Finally a doughnut was spotted and sure enough there was a clam in the sand! The way overexposed photo is proof we found clams on our hunt.

We weren’t wildly successful, finding only about a third of our limit, but we were satisfied after 2 hours out on the beach. The sun was setting and we were tired and cold. We headed back, cleaned the clams, fried them up, and enjoyed our meal knowing we worked hard for it.

We went to the beach!

March 12, 2013

This past weekend we drove to the beach! We met our friends from Eugene and they brought their adorable dog along. Woo! I’m pretty sure the rest of the week will be pictures from the weekend. I hope you don’t mind.

Our first full day there we hit the beach in the morning and watched as Sawyer (the dog) played on the beach for the first time and took lots of pictures of her. We watched the waves coming in and out, we watched people horseback riding down the beach, we tried to ride our (borrowed) bikes down the beach.

I also made sure to warn everyone not to turn their backs to the sea. I followed my warning until Walker instructed me to turn my back to it to get a picture of our feet in the surf. Guess who got their boots full of water? Right, me. I was soaked and Walker got just a little splash. So it goes. We all had a good laugh and made our way back to home base. I changed and continued to enjoy the sunny day we had been blessed with.
