The process of making friends

This past weekend I was invited to a supper club by a girl I had met through a mutual friend when I first moved here. I was especially excited because her supper club were headed to an Indian restaurant that takes only 1 reservation and it’s for a table in the kitchen. They had planned it a few months in advance and had one seat left.

I was also pretty apprehensive because I would be meeting 4 totally new people all at once. I’m pretty good one on one but I was intimidated that I would be the odd one out and that I would feel awkward and not know what to say.

Turns out I was wrong. They were all super nice and unique and interesting in their own ways. They seemed genuinely interested to get to know more about me and made me feel welcome at their supper club. I felt completely at ease and didn’t find myself at a loss for words. I think it was a success. Unless you count the fact that I left my delicious leftovers in the back seat of car. That was a bit of a bummer.

Finding inspiration in unexpected places-petal prints

April 5, 2013

Yesterday it rained for the first time in what seems like a couple of weeks. On my walk to the post office I noticed quite a few more petals from the flowering trees on the ground. As I tend to notice the small details around me I saw a print from a shoe on one of the petals. It had a really neat chevron shape. I looked around until a found a few more neat petals/shoe designs and did my best to capture them.

I’m not sure what I’ll do with them yet but it’s fun finding inspiration in unlikely places.

{Can you see me in the last picture?}

Taking my work outside

April 4, 2013

I’ve been trying to take advantage of these beautiful days we’ve been having, because lets be honest, I’m in Seattle and the rain is coming again soon. I’ve been working out in the park, reading outside, and going on walks.

Today I remembered how I used to do almost all of my hammering outside when I lived in Austin because the weather was always nice. Well the weather was nice here today. So you know what I did?! I took my hammering outside. It was lovely. The spring flowers (yes I think dandelions are pretty) are out both on the ground and all over the trees. I put my headphones on and listened to some good tunes. Perfect.

I hope I’ll get to do that more often in the coming months. It’s nice to be able to take some of my work out of the apartment when I can. How do you get out of your regular routine?
