Container planting

Last night I went to free class put on by my grocery story co-op. It was all about container gardening which is all we can do at this point being in a small apartment with no outdoor space. I wanted to know what grows best in pots and with a limited amount of sun and shorter growing season here in the Northwest.

It was pretty informative and after a while we got to pot our own plant and get our hands dirty. I chose a baby chard plant and I’m looking forward to watching it grow. With my mini garden started I’m getting really excited about what’s next. Lettuce, strawberries, maybe some herbs?

Do you have any container plants growing? What wisdom can you share?

A weird little video

I tried something new yesterday and it turned out alright, not great. I was going to keep it to myself but I put a bit of time into so I figured I’d just share it anyhow. The most important thing I learned? Don’t film movies with your iphone vertically.

The next one should be that much better. I’m heading to the SNAP conference in 1 week maybe I’ll make a video!

Traditional english breakfast with a twist

This past weekend I wanted to make Walker and myself a more filling and savory breakfast. As of late our weekday breakfasts have been on the colder and sweeter side. Having more time on Saturday morning I was able to make a feast. I decided to make a traditional English breakfast with a twist.

Our breakfast was completely vegan. But even Walker agreed it wasn’t lacking in flavor. Want to try your own this weekend? Here’s how:

-a can of baked beans (I used an organic one)
-spinach steamed (I put a little lemon juice on mine and it was delicious)
-a loaf of french bread cut in half and toasted
-sausage links (I used tofurkey but you could use regular if you prefer)
-button mushrooms sauteed
-broiled tomato halves
-and of course we made some breakfast tea served with almond milk

Enjoy!

If you try it out let me know what you think!
