Fun fact about me!

December 9, 2011

I’m really really good at finding things.

Sometimes the finding is the result of lots of looking, some luck, and a big belief that I will indeed find what I am looking for. I have a bit of a superstition about the last bit. You know people are always going on about the power of positive thinking and I’ve tried and tried and it’s hard for me to tell sometimes if it worked or not but in the case of me finding things I completely believe it!

Let me give you an example. This 4th of July my boyfriend had organized a long, fun day of volleyball. Everyone had a arrived, the sand was watered down so our feet wouldn’t singe too much, and a game was underway. A play was made and some commotion began so we all stopped to see what the problem was. A player on the other side had hit the ball and his ring had catapulted into the air and then into the sand. Obviously we couldn’t keep playing with his ring in the sand, it had to be found. Some people started to sift through the sand by the handfuls searching for his ring. I was assuming this was just making the ring sift farther and farther down. It was still very early in the day and very little volleyball had been played and unless the ring was found the day would be canceled. I was not ok with that. There was only one thing for me to do and that was FIND THAT RING. I made a metal note that indeed I would be the one to find it. I double checked with the man to find out which way he actually thought his ring flew. I got right in the flight path and stuck my hands in the sand. A few sifts later (really a rather short time) I came up with the ring right around my finger! I had indeed found the ring and the day was saved!

See what I mean? I have many more similar stories but I thought this one highlighted my fun fact so well.

What’s a fun fact about you? Maybe this is a good time to get a clever answer ready for the next time you’re meeting people and you have to share a fun fact. This would be my answer.

What I Wore Wednesday, take 3

December 7, 2011

A fitting title today since I managed to photograph myself 3 different days!! Woo!

Day 1: All bundled up to go out for late night date night! My boyfriend and I have both been so busy but we managed to find a little bit of time and went out for a reverse happy hour. I had a classy glass of wine.

Purple scarf: NYC sidewalk find

Black wool coat: Kenneth Cole Reaction

Jeans: Uniqlo

Boots: Aldo

Black Skeleton gloves: a staple of mine for about 5 years, I have at least 3 sets (these ones glow in the dark!)

Day 2: I’ve been taking a dance class and our final class and evaluations were this past week. It’s customary to dress up so I wore the twirliest dress I own right now, so twirling in fact that it’s necessary to wear shorts or thick leggings underneath if I’m to dance.

Black wool cardigan: Miu Miu purchased for $20 at Buffalo Exchange

Dress: This is my favorite dress right now! It twirls, has pockets, and fits me perfectly (hard to do).

Leggings: Urban Outfitters

Black suede flats: J. Crew

Day 3: A friend of mine works for Red Cross and ended up with some extra tickets to the final dress rehearsal of the Nutcracker. Sounded much better than paying for it so we made a night of it. We got all dressed up, had some pre-show bites and drinks, and enjoyed the show!

Black velvet/beaded dress: an ebay gift from my mom, she did good!

Tights: Ann Taylor

Red velvet heels: Nine West

I think I’m getting just a tad bit better at this! Yeah!

A little Adventure!

November 29, 2011

Over the Thanksgiving weekend my boyfriend and I were able to get in a mini adventure. It was quite special since he doesn’t particularly like stopping a lot while traveling. We had driven a few hours out of Austin to visit his dad and on the way back is when we had our adventure!

We headed out about noon and took our first stop in a tiny town to check out a dance hall/restaurant. They were closed since it was the day after Thanksgiving but I made a declaration to come back and boogie. I can’t wait to come back, check out how cool it looks inside.

I figured if we couldn’t go in we should at least take a walk around the deserted block and be cute.

Then we headed a little ways down the road to get some delicious bbq. We made 2 stops actually so we could compare. Our eyes were much bigger than out stomachs so we had lots to bring back and enjoy later.

Then we headed on back to town. Our vacation over it was time for me to get back to work! Orders had been piling up while I was off tootling around.
