at the drive-in

August 9, 2012

Last week I was with my mom on our annual mother/daughter camping trip. It was our 13th year! It didn’t actually start out as a mother/daughter trip, it started as a family trip. My sister, brother, mom and I all packed the van to the brim and headed out to the location that my mom and I would continue to visit year after year. It’s funny to think back on.

Anyhow that first year we discovered the Cherry Bowl Drive-In Theatre. What luck! It was only 5 miles from where we were camping. It’s only been owned by 2 people in it’s history and is celebrating it’s 56 year! We’ve been coming for the past 13 years and I never get sick of coming! I love the atmosphere, the popcorn, the swings, the funny cut outs, the family fun to be had, it’s one of my favorite things about our camping trip. The only downside is how hard it is to stay awake through 2 features! This year I am proud to say I did it! I watched Ice Age 4 and The Dark Knight Rises. There have been years I’ve barely stayed awake for anything. Paying admission to sleep in the car. It’s worth it though and I’ll take the challenge any day!

what i wore while “camping”

As I’ve mentioned, and been posting about, my mom and I took our annual camping trip. I say “camp” because we do sleep in a tent but we’re on cots and there are real toilets and showers near by. When we go out and about no one would guess that we are actually camping. My mom took these (with some direction from me) while we were out and about one day. They turned out great! Thank you mom!

dress: handed down to me by a taller friend (it’s now one of my favorites!)

red sandals: vintage (there is a story here but I’ll save that for another time)

gold MI necklace: made by me (see here)

mother/daughter 13th annual camping trip-part 3

August 7, 2012

More pictures from the annual camping trip! It looks like my mom wrote 9/2012 in the sand but it should say 7/2012. She insists on taking certain pictures each year and this is one of them.

1-writing in the sand

2, 3-“borrowing” a porch for one of our photo shoots. I have a few too but I’ll be sharing them tomorrow

4- a pretty flower

5-a tugboat in fishtown

6, 7- we always stop by LakeĀ  Michigan before we head home from vacation. It’s so peaceful there its a good way to begin to end the trip

8-trying on a dress in a vintage shop

9-beer flight at a Michigan brewery. We stopped to try the beer and stayed to see a really fun band play

10-the lake washing our writing away and symbolizing the end of our trip
