Summer is nearing it’s end

August 14, 2012

Living in Michigan it was always a bummer to see the first leaves starting to change around mid August. It meant the summer was over and that school would soon be starting. Once I was done with school this didn’t seem to bother me as much since I do indeed love the fall, especially when it didn’t mean school was starting.

This summer I’ve been living in Michigan spending time with my family before relocating again to Seattle. Previously I’ve been in Texas where this slow change basically does not take place. At least not in Austin anyhow. The last few days I’ve been scouring the tree line just daring a leaf to be red, yellow, or orange. At first I saw nothing and would be glad that the dog days of summer were still upon us. Then it happened. I didn’t notice the first tree but my dad pointed it out to me. There is was starting to change colors. You know when you notice one then you start to see them everywhere? Yep, the trees are starting to change and yes that means summer is coming to a close.

This year, for me, that means heading out to Seattle. I have just 3 weeks left in Michigan and I’m sure they will fly by! I have much more excitement about the summer ending because I get to be with Walker in Seattle but like everything with an ending I find sadness in it. As the leaves continue to change I’ll be preparing for my change also. I have a few more fun things planned and then it’s packing and sorting before I fly on out of here. To the rest of summer!

P.S. My next few posts may be photo less. Between all my flitting about between this parent and that and this city and that I left my camera chord at my dad’s. Oy! I also have a giveaway I want to do but that will probably have to wait until next week. I’ll keep you posted!

Customer’s stories: Steph

August 13, 2012

Yeah! Story number 2! I mentioned a few weeks ago that I was starting a new feature where I share some of the amazing stories I get to hear all the time! I started with my own and 2 weeks ago I shared Alexis’s story and today I get to share my good friend Steph’s. I’ll tell you a bit about my good friend first. I met Steph after having lived in Austin for about a year. We were initially drawn to each other because we are both around 5 ft tall and we like good beer (we met at a beer related event). Since that initial meeting we discovered we had much more in common and formed a wonderful friendship. (As she will share she met a boy from Michigan-my home state and where I’ve been spending my summer- and just moved here with him! I think that brings us even closer even though we’ll be so far apart)

The story as Steph tell it:

Texas Will Forever Be Home

I was born in Texas. San Angelo, TX. Yep, my dad was in the Airforce, which meant we moved – A LOT. Two weeks after my birth, the traveling began:  Texas to California to South Korea to Maryland to New Jersey to Ohio…and finally, Texas again – Austin, TX – where I stayed for the past twenty years of my life. It is Austin where I learned to play softball, met my first loves, graduated from college, started me career, etc.
Austin means so, so much to me, & when I saw Jessica started making these awesome state necklaces, I HAD to have one of my own…to show my love of the place that made me who I am. Since buying & wearing my favorite necklace daily, I met The Man who convinced me to move with him to Michigan (where Jessica’s from!). I love, love, LOVE that my favorite necklace sparks up SO many conversations & I get to talk to new people about my loved Texas.

The Man insists that I’m a Michigander now & he wants to get me a Michigan necklace to wear. Maybe a teeny, tiny one, as Texas is forever my home.

Thank you so much Steph for sharing a bit of your story with us today! I’m so happy for you and Kevin and I love that you get to experience all Michigan has to offer. If the winter gets to0 cold or long you always have Texas to escape to (just a week or so though because Kevin will be missing you).

If you like reading these stories please come back in 2 weeks as I’ll be sharing yet again! Also in the comments below tell me about a relocation you’ve had in your life or maybe a state you’d be willing to relocate to if the opportunity arose.

moomers ice cream

August 10, 2012

A few years ago my mother and I discovered Moomers. I can say with all honesty it’s the best ice cream I have had to date. We originally discovered it in a little shop in one of the town near where we camp. They since stopped carrying that brand so the last couple of years we’ve had to go straight to the source (not a bad thing and the ice cream shop overlooks the farm where the dairy cows live). This year though it seems almost every place we went had Moomers ice cream and more often than not we just couldn’t resist. Our favorite flavor is coconut almond delight. I could eat it every day and never get sick of it. There are chopped almonds, tiny chocolate chips, and coconut flakes. mmmm. We probably had Moomers about 4 or 5 times over the span of our camping trip and I don’t regret a single scoop! If you are ever on the west side of Michigan near Traverse City get some! You’ll thank me!
