We fried a turkey

November 26, 2012

Happy Monday after the holiday! I wanted to keep it light today as I’m sure, like me, you’re still exhausted from the weekend. I did my best to relax yesterday but with the holidays in full swing that was more difficult than I would have liked.

I mentioned Walker and I went Oregon to spend our Thanksgiving with friends. It was our first adult Thanksgiving. By that I mean it was the first time the meal was fully prepared by us. Our friends were set on frying the turkey which seemed a little freaky especially after seeing those insurance commercials. We were extra careful and we were quite successful! It was cooked perfectly and tasted great along with all the other sides we prepared.

Also next Monday I will choose an email subscriber to win one of my holiday necklaces. If you are not on the list be sure to get on it!

How I got here-part 2

November 23, 2012

Last Friday I shared part 1 of my story of answering just how it is that I became a handmade business owner and here is part 2.

I began my second year at community college. A lot of things happened that year that were pivotal in how I got where I am. The most important being the meeting of a girl named Katie. We became very good friends and she is now my best friend.

After my 2 years there I transferred to a university in Michigan and Katie transferred to a different university that was roughly 10 hours away. Despite that and not yet having cell phones (can you believe it?) we kept in touch and kept our friendship alive. We would use calling cards, email, and we even managed to visit each other at school a couple of times. Oh the days of being so adventurous and not having a care in the world.

We both took 3 years to complete our degrees and after that time we had made rough plans to just bum around the year after graduation. She was planning on moving to the city I went to school in and we were going to live together and just do whatever we wanted. It’s funny thinking back to this time.

That’s not quite how it turned out though. See I had been studying math with the intention of going to grad school but somewhere along the way I decided that wasn’t for me and I was a little lost yet again which is why bumming around sounded so appealing.  She, on the other hand, was studying physics and wasn’t sure if she was going to continue on or not. She got a pretty good offer she couldn’t refuse (boy am I glad she didn’t) to stay at school another year and begin her graduate work.

To be continued…next Friday.

Happy Thanksgiving!

November 22, 2012

We’re off in Eugene, Oregon having Thanksgiving with some good friends from Austin that moved out this way the same time we did! Isn’t that great! It’s also our first time to Oregon so we’re trilled! I’ll share all about it when we get back. Enjoy your day!

Here is a picture from last Thanksgiving to hold you over.
