It’s a pumpkin party!

October 17, 2013

Last weekend I hosted a somewhat impromptu pumpkin carving party at our new place in the backyard. Our friend who just moved here really wanted to visit the pumpkin patch which we did earlier in the day and then I said we could have a carving party at my place after. It was nice bringing together a few different groups of people we have come to know (which I always think will be awkward but it was totally fine). I also met a few new people that Walker invited from work.

After our carving was finished we warmed up inside with some soup and conversation. A few people trickled out and the remaining group played a game. To end the night we lit our pumpkins and then everyone headed home.

It was a pretty fun night and our very first get together in this new space went so well. I can’t wait to plan another party.

Walker’s first pumpkin patch

Over the weekend my friend, who is also named Jessica, and I wanted to hit up a pumpkin patch. Walker was not so much into the idea. He kept saying I’m not going, I’m not going. I kept saying you have to come, you have to come. And then he said pumpkin patches just aren’t my thing. I said well you’re from Texas, have you ever been to a pumpkin patch? He said no so I said well then you have no idea if it’s your thing.

I finally convinced him to go to his very first pumpkin patch and it went just fine. We took a wheelbarrow to the patch and that’s where I got my pumpkin. A 19 pounder. Then we picked out a few smaller ones from the piles out front. Overall it was fun but you really can’t beat the trips as a kid. A hayride around the field, any pumpkin you want (can carry), and then doughnuts and apple cider. Well maybe I can relive those memories when I’m home in Michigan very soon.

Brunch in the backyard

This weekend we had the most amazing weather in Seattle. It was sunny all day Saturday and Sunday. Walker and I took full advantage of it and we even more glad that we chose a place with a backyard. We made brunch and headed out back to enjoy our meal in the sun. Then we had some back yard work planned to straighten out our little patch of land. These are a glimpse of the yard before we’ve done any work. Even though it’s a bit untidy it sure it nice to have.

I’m thinking maybe some pumpkin carving is in order? Care to join me?
