Stumbled Upon New Gallery

March 12, 2012

Over the weekend we finally got a bit of a break from the rain so Walker and I took the motorcycle out and visited the cheese shop and visited the grocery store. On the way back we noticed a lot of people going in and out of what looked to be a new gallery about 2 blocks from my apartment. We drove to my place, dropped everything off, and decided to walk down to see what all the commotion was about. Turns out the gallery did indeed just open and from what I understand the people who opened or are running it (not sure which) used to do prints on t-shirts and now they are making prints. Maybe my facts are 100% correct. Anyhow there were some really interesting pieces up, especially if you’re into science fiction. There was a nice mix of original art and prints and price tags to go along. I had my eye on a few things so it’s kind of handy it’s so close.

P.S. I don’t typically wear my glasses but I was having a contact malfunction and in this case it was necessary. It’s funny though since I don’t wear them often I feel very disoriented in them and I find it difficult to communicate, as if it’s some sort of barrier between me and my surrounding. Odd.

Welcome to the Beginning of My Rainy Weekend

March 10, 2012

We’ve been getting a lot of rain here in Austin and I think we’ll continue to into this coming week. I don’t have a car here so when it rains and I have no groceries in the house, guess what? I have the option of walking or biking to the store. Obviously biking sounds a bit messy since I would have no way to keep the rain off of me and I don’t have a splash guard in the back. Also this was not an option since my bike was at Walker’s place. So walking it was. I think I mentioned in a previous rainy post that my boots are starting to wear through the bottoms and water starts to find it’s way it. That makes for a swishy walk. I decided to take my camera to make the walk a bit more enjoyable. I think it worked.

Snowshoeing Adventure in Utah

March 9, 2012

In my last post I wrote about our trip to Utah. During the trip Walker and I decided to take a snowshoeing hike through the trails near the resort. We got an early start which was great because we ran into very few people and it was so quiet and peaceful. All of the untouched snow was sparkling in the sun. I wanted to be the first to touch all the perfectness but at the same time want to leave everything undisturbed. I did a little of both. Along the way we had one fortunate encounter and found out about a lake some way up the trail. We made that our goal and journeyed on. It took us about 2 hours to reach the lake since we were stopping every 2 seconds to take pictures. It was just so pretty. I got a lot more pictures of Walker taking pictures of the outdoors and Walker has a lot more nature pictures.

Once we got to the lake (last picture-although it’s difficult to tell since it’s frozen and covered in snow), we took a break in the snowbank and had lunch. Oh winter picnics are pretty awesome. Luckily though it wasn’t too cold so we could enjoy the break and eating with our gloves off. Sitting down was tricky with the snowshoes so I took mine off to eat and thought I could venture off the trail to take a picture. Um no, my leg sunk in until the snow was up to my butt. I quickly handed Walker my camera and crawled out. Best to keep the snowshoes on when snowshoeing. Got it!

After our break we took the fast route back and it only took about an hour.

Snowshoeing was my favorite part of the trip.
