A quick recap of the weekend

February 11, 2013

Here is a quick recap of our weekend (I’ll be sharing more later in the week). We had some friends of ours in town from Austin and we made the most of the few days we had. It was really fun and now it’s back to our regular schedules. Boo.

We have been in the apartment for about 5 months and it’s just now to my liking. I’ve been slowly buying pieces and replacing ones Walker picked out without me or got for free but decorating is not one of my strengths. I know what I like but I don’t know how to put anything together.

A friend of ours offered to help and since he redecorates his place just about every week and works for an interior designer I trusted his opinion. It was nice having someone to think totally out of the box. We have 2 identical bookcases and he had the idea to put one in the entryway as a shoe/gloves/hats/scarves/misc holder. It’s perfect there! He did a great job and I love the space now. It’s open and simple but cozy at the same time. Come take a look!

-Desk/work area for me and Walker. I just picked up the chair off craigslist and it’s my new favorite piece.

-Our tv and entertainment center. This is still a bit of a work in progress but it’ll do for now. My plan is to hang some of my art above the tv.DSC_1379

-The new (to us) couch I got a few weeks ago. Some perfectly placed books and my fly box hiding next to the plant. Also how cool is that beetle pillow? My mom bought it for me just because and it was a wonderful surprise in the mail. I LOVE it!

(Still not super crazy about the rug but I can’t do everything at once. Plus it’s fun to always be looking for things to add. Right now I’m on the prowl for black, gold, and dark wood frames.)

Snow and bright colors

February 6, 2013

The other weekend we got invited to go to a ski/snowboard resort about 2 hours out of the city with some friends of ours. Like I mentioned in a previous post I’m not much of a thrill seeker so downhill isn’t my thang. At first Walker said he’d go snowshoeing with me but he really wanted to snowboard so who was I to hold him back.

I made the decision to go along and read my book, knit, people watch. This always sounds so much more glamorous than it is. The reality is that I was surrounded by skiers and snowboarders and their entire families coming and going and making a lot of noise and commotion. It was hard to find a place to relax let alone sit. It seemed it would be a long day just an hour in but I somehow managed to stay occupied for most of the day. It was nice that the book I brought was set in Alaska and it was snowing big beautiful flakes out and cold. I took a turn reading outside and setting the mood for the book.

My final destination was one of the restaurant/bars with a great view of the people coming off of various trails and I started to notice all of the colors. Everyone has such vivid snow clothes and it looked even more obvious against the bright, white snow. I had a good time capturing different colorful photos. And of course I got a few of Walker getting ready to slide down a hill. The day wasn’t a total bust and once Walker joined me at least I had a bit of company. Plus seeing all the snow was fun and we played car games on the way home.
