Me, my friends, and austin

January 17, 2013

My trip to Austin last week was pretty spontaneous. A few weeks back Walker had booked a trip to Dallas for a bachelor party so I decided I would visit friends in Austin. Plus I used air miles so it was basically free. Bonus!

My first few days in town were pretty quiet since most everyone works during the week, go figure. I used this time to take myself out on a few dates and treat myself. I got my hair trimmed, a facial, a massage, and enjoyed some of my favorite Texas beers. These few days were made even better by the amazing weather and sun. There were two days in a row that were around the high 60’s and low 70’s and nothing but sun. I sat in the sun for as long as I could and it was glorious. I enjoyed a nice local brew as I worked on my cowl for my return to colder weather.

My evenings were filled with catching up with ex-coworkers, visiting a local brewery for their monthly party, trying out new restaurants and just getting to be myself with friends. That was a nice change to the small talk I’ve been working through in Seattle trying to make new friends. I know it takes time but it was nice to take a break from all of that and just relax.

Walker just got a new lens for his camera and was trying it out over the weekend. I was especially excited because normally he won’t take pictures of me if I ask. But since he had a new toy he was trying all sorts of things and even at my request. Woo!

It’s been cool for a little while here and I’m really loving being able to wear all my knitted accessories. It was a rare day when I’d get to wear them in Austin. The weather here is much more suited to knitting also. I like that. I met up with an old friend of mine the other day and we had a little knitting party. Usually more chatting than knitting happens but it was pretty fun.

We also attended a little wine and cheese tasting at our favorite grocery story. Later that day I used the pears I got at the store to make prosciutto, blue cheese, pear, and arugula wraps. Walker thought they were…interesting but I liked them.

Knitted gifts for baby

July 11, 2012

This past weekend I went to a baby shower for some good friends of mine. I started knitting the baby booties on the drive home from Texas but I still had 1 baby booty to go and a bonnet to knit. There were only a few days between getting home from Texas and heading down for the shower and it was filled with unpacking, cleaning, organizing and so on. I knew I would have a super long bus ride and would have time to knit and that’s what I was counting on. I am the queen of last minute knitting! Good thing my projects were small. Even with 9 hours on the bus I still had knitting to do. Good thing I arrived on a Friday and the shower was on Sunday. I knitted after everyone had gone to bed and everything was done and wrapped before the party began. Talk about cutting it close.

Both of my knitted items were free patters from Purl Bee one of my favorite go to sites for all things crafty and beautiful. I made 2 sets of the baby moccasins and a matching baby bonnet (I wrapped it before I photographed it but I plan on getting pictures of the new baby girl wearing it).
