Baby in knitted gifts

November 12, 2013

Remember my post about 5 knitted baby gift ideas? I made sure to get at least one picture of my new nephew wearing his knitted gifts and I think he’s the best model. Also the cutest.

^Hahahahahaha! This face is killing me-it’s so funny! He’s a bit tiny for these mittens now but just wait.

I love his tiny face! I can’t wait to make him even more knitted gifts as he grows and I really can’t wait until I’m home next to cuddle with this cutie.

5 knitted baby gift ideas

October 25, 2013

I’ve been missing for a few days but I can’t apologize because I’ve been distracted by the cutest baby boy ever! My sister had a boy 2 weeks ago today and I came to town to spend some time with them. I have some really cute pictures to share but for now I thought I would share some of the knitted items I made for my new nephew.

1. Baby hats. I made a few small ones and they are slightly bigger than his head so he has some room to grown. I also made a set of matching hats for him and his daddy (or mommy it fits my sister too).

2. Baby mittens. I made a plain version of this pattern from purl bee. These are a bit big for him now but they will be so cute when he gets a bit bigger.

3. Baby legwarmers. For the larger ones I used this pattern also from purl bee (they are one of my go to sites). Everyone had a good laugh about them because they are way too big for the baby right now so I made another pair that were about 1 inch across by 4 inches tall. They are really tiny but so are his legs right now! Too cute!

4. Baby moccasins. Pattern here. These are fun because you can add any design or pattern you want to the front. They are also pretty fast to knit up.

5. Baby blanket. This one is my favorite. It’s super cozy and plush but also really easy to knit even for a beginner and it makes a great gift. As they get older they could use it for a lap blanket. It’s fun to imagine them using it for years to come.

A sheep herding competition

September 20, 2013

One evening I had a missed call from my friend Sarah. In the message she said something about a sheep herding competition. I had to listen to it twice because I was surprised at the suggestion. Without knowing a lot of details I agreed to go because I have a flexible schedule for just such things, I was intrigued, there was going to be a fiber tent, and it was on Vashon Island-one of the islands in the area I had yet to visit.

I biked over to her house on that Friday morning to meet up with the group so we could carpool over. We drove to West Seattle and then onto the ferry. It was an especially foggy morning so the ride over was a bit ominous, but I liked it.

This is the only picture of a dog I got. I was a little too distracted by the fiber tent and forgot to take any pictures of the sheep herding. Although I’m not sure they would have turned out that well anyway. This puppy was so sweet though. As soon as you went to pet him he cuddled right up to you and also he loves hugs. Um can I take this one home?

During the sheep herding there was some down time so I went to check out the demonstrations at the fiber tent (fancy title for all things fiber related-knitting, weaving, spinning, felting, even yarn dying). When I got there this really nice lady was showing me how to needle felt. I had done it before but she seemed so excited to be sharing her craft that I just went with it. She then had me come sit with her and work on my own creation. I felt and probably looked like I was part of the event. When I was done she sent me away with a large bag of wool and a needle for making more fun things at home. How sweet is she!

So I didn’t get any pictures of sheep but I played around with yarn all day long. Does that count? Anyhow we all had a great time and Vashon Island is adorable. I can’t wait to spend a weekend there sometime soon.
