Seattle-a day in fremont

June 9, 2012

Many months ago I was watching one of those America’s top food places about sandwiches. One of the top 10 was the Cuban sandwich from Paseo. The showed how all the mouthwatering ingredients are put together to make what looked to be utterly delicious. Judging from the line they say forms daily I knew if I was ever in Seattle this would be a must. Of course this was all before I had any idea I would be visiting or moving to Seattle.

This should go without saying but of course going to this particular sandwich shop was a high priority on my list. Made even higher by many recommendations from both friends and strangers. Luckily we got to Paseo right before a long line formed and only had to wait a little while. We did have to hold our plates for a few awkward minutes while we waited for one of the few tables to open up. Those few moments were so worth it! The sandwich really was just so delicious. Oh my! I could go on but you’ll just have to try it. hehe.

Since we had not been to Fremont yet we strolled around a bit and eventually were on a path that led to a nice park in the area that is next to the zoo grounds. We walked through the rose garden there and a fun path with plants you could smell, touch, and taste. Then we ventured on toward the park and the lake within the park. On our way it started to pour. Like really rain. Up until this point when it rained it was mostly just misty and didn’t last long. I was not wearing the right kind of shoes for a downpour so I was a bit distressed about that but otherwise it was kind of fun. We followed the pathway around the lake to the bus taking pictures and finding some relief under large trees.

We caught the bus home and soon after the rain cleared up and the sun came out. That would have been a good time to be in the park. Oh well we enjoyed it all the same. Mostly.

Seattle: a day on bainbridge island

June 8, 2012

I had a list of things I wanted to do while I was here and one of those things was riding on a ferry. We had plans the first few days we arrived but then I started planning the rest to make sure there was time for it all. For the ferry day we decided it would be fun to check out Bainbridge Island. Also I chose the one day of the week it was not supposed to rain. Woo!

Despite the partly sunny skies it was still a bit brisk outside and even more so once the ferry started moving. We stood out on the deck for as long as we could handle it.

Once we got on the island we weren’t quite sure what to do and also we were limited by where our feet could take us. First things first though, we ate. We split a delicious and rather large omelette at a diner on the Island. The jam we piled onto our biscuit was my favorite. mmm. Then we just strolled around the downtown area walking in and out of shops. It wasn’t quite what I had pictured but it was alright.

Once we had exhausted the downtown area we just decided to start wine tasting, that is always a good time. We tasted at two places and by the time we were done we had to book it to catch the next ferry. On the way back we ate our cheeses, fruit, and bread that we had carried all day hoping to have a picnic on the island. It didn’t quite turn out the way I was thinking but we had a great time and I think riding the ferry was worth it.

Seattle: a day in queen anne

June 7, 2012

In following with the theme on this particular day we visited Queen Anne. The space needle is there, the Pacific Science Center, great views and the city, and some odds and ends. We started at the Science Center to see the King Tut exhibit. The museum itself was more catered towards kids but Walker loves games and puzzles and they had a bunch of them.

We took a break for lunch before heading back to the butterfly room and the King Tut exhibit. It was pretty cool but really crowded. After that the sun made a brief appearance so Walker pulled out his binoculars so we could see Venus passing in between us and the sun. Can you see the tiny black dot?

Then despite the rain and the cold we scooted our booties up to a high point in Queen Anne to get a great view of the city. It was worth it I’d say.

We ended the day having drinks and catching up with my friend from college that we randomly ran into the other day. It was a good day. They have all been good days. I’m still having a great time but I am fully aware that in a few days I will be heading back to Austin and it will be many days until I see Walker again. Sad face.
