Texas we miss you

March 19, 2013

This past weekend we got to head to Texas for a friend’s wedding. All week Walker and I were so excited to head out. We knew the weather was going to awesome, the food was going to be so good, and we were going to see some of our good friends that we miss dearly.

We took a red eye to maximize our time there but that meant we arrived in Texas at 5 am without a wink of sleep. Luckily we got to check in super early. We took a nap and promptly headed to the pool and the sun. We were in heaven. The sun felt so good and we were so warm. I’d have stayed out there all day if I didn’t think I’d turn into a crisp.

We also hit up a local Mexican joint for some texmex and a Mexican martini. Little did we know we’d be eating Mexican food the entire weekend, but really I’m not complaining. We relaxed the rest of the day and got ready for the wedding activities.

We had the rehearsal dinner Friday night, a brunch the day of the wedding and then the wedding and the reception. The reception was held at the Modern Art Museum in Fort Worth so I took a gander around a few galleries before getting my dance and drink on. It was a lot of fun and it all went by much, much too quickly. When can we go back?!

Adventure to the beach: a brewery and clamming

March 13, 2013

More of our weekend at the beach.

The entire trip was centered around going clamming, luckily the dig was approved for the weekend we were there! Woo! The best time to look for clams is a couple of hours before evening low tide so to waste time we headed a half an hour from the beach to Aurora, OR and Fort George brewery.

The sun was out and it was almost warm so we sat on their patio and tried nearly all the beers they had to offer, sample style-my favorite. After having a sufficient amount of beer we headed back to the beach to get our clam on.

It was quite the adventure. We didn’t really know what we were looking for, this being our first time, but we did get a helpful hint along the way. We were told to look for doughnut like shapes in the sand and also dimples. You also had to walk all funny in order to get them to show in the sand. We went a long while without seeing a thing. Finally a doughnut was spotted and sure enough there was a clam in the sand! The way overexposed photo is proof we found clams on our hunt.

We weren’t wildly successful, finding only about a third of our limit, but we were satisfied after 2 hours out on the beach. The sun was setting and we were tired and cold. We headed back, cleaned the clams, fried them up, and enjoyed our meal knowing we worked hard for it.
