A book reading

September 18, 2013

I’ve been absent for a couple of days as you may or may not have noticed. I decided to go to Austin somewhat last minute and I had posts ready to go for the days I would be gone but I got too busy before I left to actually schedule them. It’s alright though I’ve been learning lately to let some things go in order to enjoy myself more fully.

Before I left for Austin (which I’ll be sharing about soon) I went to a book reading by Langdon Cook. When I first moved out to Seattle I read his first book called Fat of the Land all about foraging in the Pacific Northwest. His newest book is called The Mushroom Hunters and as you probably guessed is all about mushrooms. I’ve been following along with his blog so when I saw that he would be doing a book reading at the local book shop I planned to attend.

We were supplied with a mushroom pate and wine and an ample amount of body heat as the tiny room filled with people. It was worth it though because everyone was fascinated by his stories and of course the morel giveaways during the event (I did not win). When the reading was over I waited in line to get my book signed and biked home happy and intrigued to do some mushroom hunting of my own (with professional guidance of course).

A quick ferry trip

September 6, 2013

This past Monday, also Labor day, we rode the ferry to Bainbridge Island with our friends. Riding a ferry boat was high on their list of things to do and so we made it our mandatory Monday before they drove home plan. I wasn’t sure I was so into riding the ferry again since just a couple weekends ago we rode on a few ferries while Walker’s parents were in town but it turned out to be fun. It’s always nice when someones excitement can rub off on you. I guess that’s what good friends are for.

We had their car with us so we drove down the road and found a breakfast/brunch spot. It turned out the place we chose was a super cute vintage diner. Perfect! We all got something to eat, which was good because I was starting to get hunger pains (I don’t usually wait so long to eat breakfast).

Then we drove right back to the ferry with perfect timing and had a wonderful ending to a very fun weekend.

Texas football game day

September 5, 2013

Well I guess it’s that season again. I’m not a huge football fan but over the weekend we had some friends in town that all went to UT (University of Texas) with Walker and they were strutting their pride around town. I have a little pride after working for UT for 4 years but it’s not quite the same. It was fun though. After some Paseo sandwiches and beer tasting we headed to the Texas alumni bar to watch the game.

The rest of the evening people kept asking if we were from out of town. I guess if a group of 5 is mostly matching it means tourists. I get that. We set them straight though as well as letting them know about our love for Texas.
