Saying bye to a little friend

March 25, 2013

This past weekend my mom’s little dachshund doggy Petey passed away. It seemed rather sudden but he had lived to be 15 years old which is I think 105 in dog years. He just got old and tired and needed to rest more than he could in this life. He was around for over half of my life and I considered him my doggy brother. I’m so sad he’s gone and I don’t think I’ll be able to fully realize he’s gone until I visit home next which will be really sad indeed.

Petey was such a special dog. He shared my mom’s birthday with her and strangely enough he passed on the 7 year anniversary of my grandma’s (my mom’s mom) passing. My mom said he went to be with Grandma Cindy. I so wish I could have seen him one more time. Every time I was home I would get teary eyed wondering if it was the last time I’d see my little guy. His sweet face and the way he’d cuddle into the crook of your knee when you were laying on the couch.

Being so far from home it’s hard for me to imagine him gone and not around. It sounded as if he went rather peacefully though. I think I’m still processing but I wanted to write a little post about Petey because I loved him so much and I will miss him dearly.

Chicken scratch (this really great place in Dallas)

March 20, 2013

We chose to fly out of Dallas late this past Sunday so we could meet up with some other good friends of ours before going home. They took us to lunch at a place called Chicken Scratch. It’s am amazing mix of food and beer garden. Add to that the Texas sun and warmth and seriously I could’ve spent all day there.

On a recommendation I got the chicken tenders and fries. The seasoning was…so…good. My mouth is watering right now just thinking about them. Oh my. We didn’t spend all day there but we did hang around for some time. It was so nice catching up with friends and talking about what’s to come for our futures. Exciting and scary!

It’s one of those afternoons you’re sad that you live so far away from the places and people you love but I sure am glad to have such a huge appreciation for both. An appreciation that sometimes doesn’t happen until you are separated. Basically I miss my friends, I miss Texas, I miss being warm all the time but I’m so happy to have and to have had these things in my life. Feeling pretty nostalgic I guess.

Texas we miss you

March 19, 2013

This past weekend we got to head to Texas for a friend’s wedding. All week Walker and I were so excited to head out. We knew the weather was going to awesome, the food was going to be so good, and we were going to see some of our good friends that we miss dearly.

We took a red eye to maximize our time there but that meant we arrived in Texas at 5 am without a wink of sleep. Luckily we got to check in super early. We took a nap and promptly headed to the pool and the sun. We were in heaven. The sun felt so good and we were so warm. I’d have stayed out there all day if I didn’t think I’d turn into a crisp.

We also hit up a local Mexican joint for some texmex and a Mexican martini. Little did we know we’d be eating Mexican food the entire weekend, but really I’m not complaining. We relaxed the rest of the day and got ready for the wedding activities.

We had the rehearsal dinner Friday night, a brunch the day of the wedding and then the wedding and the reception. The reception was held at the Modern Art Museum in Fort Worth so I took a gander around a few galleries before getting my dance and drink on. It was a lot of fun and it all went by much, much too quickly. When can we go back?!
