A washington wedding

May 21, 2014

Oh boy things have been quiet over here. We’ve been up to a lot of fun and I made the decision to blog a little less. I’m hoping to catch you up though so don’t worry!

A few weeks ago we attended a wedding in Washington of a friend that I met about 10 years ago in community college. We haven’t kept in touch a lot over the years so I was honored to be attending their very initiate wedding. They held it at one of the wineries about 25 minutes out of the city. As you may or may not know Walker and I don’t own a car so we had a bit of an adventure getting out there. We took 2 buses and then walked for about 2 miles. Luckily it was a beautiful day and I was so thankful the sun was out. I could have complained about our lack of car and the long bus ride and the long walk but instead I chose to think of it as an adventure that we were on together.

As we walked along the road together we joked about feeling like we were in a movie. My movie was obviously a romantic comedy. You know one where the car breaks down and the main characters argue but by the end are totally in love? Walker was thinking something more along the lines of a horror flick-to each his own. Ha!

The small wedding was really beautiful. The flowers were done by the mother and some of herĀ  friends. The cakes were all made by the bride’s sister. The multi-course dinner was from a Vietnamese restaurant in Seattle and it was some of the most interesting and tasty wedding food I’ve had. After we spent quite a while eating we finally got to dance! We danced our little hearts out (always my favorite part of any wedding). Oh and did I mention the wine was fabulous?! It was at a winery after all.

A late easter update

Ideally this Easter I would have loved to be with my new little nephew who was celebrating his first Easter but I had to just pretend as my sister texted pictures of his cuteness to me. Luckily we were invited to spend the day with some friends of ours (who we spent last Easter with). Before we met up with everyone for lunch I decided to paint cute little flowers on my toes. I was inspired by the flower phone cases I saw in the Moorea Seal shop. Too cute!

It was so nice catching up with everyone especially the newest addition to the group, a new baby girl. If I couldn’t be with my nephew at least I had a cute baby to hold. Hehe. After lunch all the ladies took a walk around the neighborhood and soaked up a little.

Everyone was pretty tired after the walk from a full day of fun and activity so we spent the rest of the day relaxing at home. And guess what?! I managed to get through Easter without eating any Easter candy. And since cadbury mini eggs are the best it was quite the accomplishment.

Portland in the city

April 10, 2014

This past weekend we took the bus down to Portland to meet our friends who traveled from Texas. It was the perfect place to meet because it was new to everyone and for us it was just a quick trip down. The first night we had dinner and drinks and caught up a bit. The next day we walked around Powell’s, did some shopping (I showed a great amount of self control when I did not buy the cute handbag), and then we had lunch at Deschutes Brewery.

After a few more stops we rested for the day and then went to our dinner location. I was super excited because they offered a tasting menu which everyone agreed to get (I’m always wanting to do this but we save it for special occasions of which this was one). They brought out plate after plate of tasty food but I was most intrigued by the chickpea fries with butternut squash ketchup. By the time dinner was complete we had been there for 3 hours! Yes 3 hours! Crazy! Needless to say everyone was tired so we called it a night.

The following morning I had made plans to meet some blogger friends. One who lives in Portland and one who was visiting from New York. Thank you blogging conferences and instagram for bringing us together. Yvonne blogs over at Dress This Nest and lives in Portland. We got to meet her super cute son and husband who was really nice. Elita blogs over at inside, out and about she is so sweet and fun and she bought me a donut. Aww.

I couldn’t stay long so after saying goodbye I met back up with my group and we had second breakfast at Pine State Biscuits (sooo good!). With full bellies we headed out to the Hood River area for hiking and waterfalls which I’ll be sharing tomorrow.
