Camping Adventure Part 2

May 15, 2012

Like I mentioned in the last post Walker and I plus friends went camping over the weekend. Our friends joined up Friday night and it was a hoot watching them try to put up the tent in the dark. It was nice having our friends come out so I could have more people to take pictures of me jumping. It looks so silly but I was having such a fun time doing it. Even my roommate joined in!

Saturday was jam packed with activity. We took a hike to Gorman falls. It’s so beautiful, seriously. While the weather was quite perfect it wasn’t so warm that the water felt refreshing mostly just really cold. Last time we were there it was over 100 degrees and as sunny as could be so the dip felt like heaven. This time I got in just because we had hiked the whole way and there was no way I wasn’t getting in.

We had lunch and then rested while more friends arrived. In the afternoon we went back to the lagoon area and followed the little ponds, streams, and waterfalls as far as we could. We were rewarded kindly with a somewhat larger and beautiful waterfall. But of course we had to hike back through the slippery water (most parts were not deep enough to swim in). By this time we were all ready to start a fire, eat dinner, play some charades, make smores, and head to bed.

The next day we packed up and took one more trip to the lagoon (for me, everyone else went on a hike while I read and relaxed) before heading back to reality.

Softball!

April 27, 2012

Yes I’m on a softball team. When I started working where I do now, almost over 3 years ago, I got talking into joining the softball team. I wouldn’t say I’m super athletic, well I guess I shouldn’t say I’m not either. I have potential but I was never interested.  I was into other sports but whenever we were forced to play in gym class in high school I would just pick dandelions and laugh with my friends.

Luckily our work softball team and league wasn’t super competitive which has mostly to do with people of all ages being on the teams and it’s coed. I started out kind of dreading it but soon came to love it. Not only was I improving from year to year (I’m quite proud of myself), we go to The Parlor, a local dive bar, after every game and have pizza and beers. This is so fun. We all finally have a chance to bond over something other than work and it’s really nice to see your coworkers in a different light. I’ve made new and better friends with my coworkers because of it.

This week we had our last game of the season. We won and we had fun! We also took some of the best group pictures we’ve taken in a few years. Yeah us!!

Saying Goodbye to a Good Friend

April 12, 2012

One of my good friends Steph has moved to Michigan with her boyfriend. I have very mixed emotions about it-happy, sad, and a teeny bit jealous since she’s moving to my home state which I miss terribly. I suppose that’s one of the reasons I’m super happy for her too because I know she will love it there! (Well I hope she does especially since it snowed the day she got there-hehe oh Michigan). Anyhow I’ve known Steph for almost as long as I’ve been here in Texas and that made her leaving all the more sad. Not to mention she always knew about all the cool things happening around town-events, concerts, she had so many ins and I so appreciated her keeping me in the loop. I love friends like that because I can be kind of lazy in that department. Well I will miss her tons! Here are some pictures from her going away party. The only reason I’m posting the one with me making that ridiculous face (otherwise I would not) is because it’s a nice picture of Steph and it was a party for her so I took the hit. You’re welcome and we’ll miss you!
