It’s a pumpkin party!

October 17, 2013

Last weekend I hosted a somewhat impromptu pumpkin carving party at our new place in the backyard. Our friend who just moved here really wanted to visit the pumpkin patch which we did earlier in the day and then I said we could have a carving party at my place after. It was nice bringing together a few different groups of people we have come to know (which I always think will be awkward but it was totally fine). I also met a few new people that Walker invited from work.

After our carving was finished we warmed up inside with some soup and conversation. A few people trickled out and the remaining group played a game. To end the night we lit our pumpkins and then everyone headed home.

It was a pretty fun night and our very first get together in this new space went so well. I can’t wait to plan another party.

My first seattle 4th of july

July 8, 2013

We started off our day picking raspberries and strawberries at the same place I recently went strawberry picking. So now I can also check raspberries off my must pick list. Woo! They were a little picked over since we arrived later in the afternoon but if you worked for it (getting up and under the bushes) you could still find a lot of larger and super ripe berries. Mmm…

Walker and I had been invited to a party a few miles north but we weren’t really in the mood to bike. Instead we packed a few bags with snacks and games and walked down to the highway overlook. It sounds like a funny place to watch the fireworks but we basically had front row seats. They weren’t super close but there was no one in front of us and we had a full view of the harbor and the surrounding neighborhoods.

After hours of waiting a lot more people showed up and a little while after 10 the fireworks finally got going. It was a good show and afterwards we headed home through the crowds and quickly found our way to bed. We were exhausted. Overall a pretty good first 4th of July in Seattle.

^this one is kind of crazy because you can see the smoke from a fire that started a little while before the fireworks started. yikes!

Pitch-and-putt

July 5, 2013

Last weekend the weather here was so wonderful. It was hot if you can believe it but I was not complaining, I was enjoying every moment of it. On that Sunday Walker and I had planned to go pitch and putting as part of his continued birthday celebrations.

First, though, we had to say bye to a friend who was leaving for Nepal! More on that later. Then we took the bus up near Green Lake and walked in the hot sun to the course. We even spotted a garage sale on the way and I got a few fun things!

I came out strong with a swing that got my first ball right on the green! Wow! Walker started out rough but soon figured out his swing while I lost mine. He ended up winning by 4 or 5 swings but we had a lot of fun. Next time though maybe we should go with a group so we have a little more competition.

I then talked Walker into walking to one of the Green Lake beaches where I swam. We then took 2 buses home and decided we needed to have a margarita in the sun. We spend the rest of the day on the couch watching movies.
