I’m at alt sf!

July 18, 2013

Right now I’m in San Francisco for the first time and I’m attending Alt SF! I’m no doubt wandering around trying to find my place and get the courage to talk to other attendees. I hope it’s going well. I will fill you in on everything when I return.

When I bought my ticket I started thinking of business card ideas. I already had the cards I was planning on using but I wanted a little gift that would represent what I do. After much thought I decided on California shaped pins with hearts over San Francisco.

I hand cut 75 CA shapes out of a softer wood, I sanded them, wood burned the hearts onto them as well as alt sf ’13 and it’s limited edition #. Next I squeezed on my blog address to the side and then glued the pin back on. Phew! I was hoping to make even more but time just didn’t allow so if you’re one of the first 75 people I meet at alt you’ll get one of these special pins. Yeah!

DIY thrifted pajamas turned cute

April 26, 2013

As I mentioned this past weekend I went to SNAP! On the first night of the event they held a pajama party. While I was preparing to leave I decided to make some cute pjs since they would be giving away awards for the best ones. I took a trip to the thrift store and picked up 2 pieces that together cost $3. And this is what I did with them.

Before: Navy blue nightgown with a ruffled neckline. Modifications to this blue nightgown are not shown but I opened up the front to make it a robe. I sewed the seams along each side. I shortened the length and then reattached the lace along the bottom.DSC_1865

Before: an over sized and long boxy nightgown DSC_1873

Step 1: I cut the flowery night gown into 2 parts. This is the bottom half.DSC_1875

Step 2: This is the top half (tunic). I removed the sleeves and then hemmed the bottomDSC_1876

Step 3: I measured where the inseam should go and then I sewed around it to make a rough pair of shorts.DSC_1879

Step 4 & 5 & 6: I added a waist and put in elastic. I sewed lace to the leg openings. I then put in elastic to the opening that was already there (that was handy) and turned my shorts into bloomers!DSC_1889

Step 7 & 8: I sewed the arm seams. I took in the sides of the tunic near the top but left it loose at the bottom. DSC_1891

Here I am at SNAP showing off my 60’s inspired pajama set. And guess what?! I won the award for the best grammy pajamas. That will do! IMG_1826

Last day in salt lake city

Sunday morning after all of the SNAP activities were over a few of us had later flights or flights the next day so we all carpooled around Salt Lake City to see some sites. We started at the capital building and then headed to Temple Square to walk around. All of the flowers were in bloom and the temple itself was quite beautiful.

Then it was time for me to head back to the airport. I was brave and chose to take the train, but this time I had it figured out. Until next time Salt Lake! I had a great time.
