Mother’s Day is next weekend! I have a few ideas you should check out for the mother in your life but first a funny story.

Two years ago on mother’s day Walker proposed to me. He had planned it for the previous day when we had plans to go to a hot spring. As it turned out we nearly got stuck on the side of a snowy mountain and missed out on the hot springs.

Last year to celebrate our engagement we planned a trip to the very hot springs we had missed out on the year before. We made it to the springs and it was lovely but I was having an issue with a blurry eye all day. The blurriness turned to extreme pain and we spent the rest of the day at the emergency room and getting medicine for my eye. Ouch!

We joked that this Mother’s Day weekend we should not leave the house BUT we inadvertently planned a wine tasting trip that weekend. Whoops. Things may not go as planned but I’m sure we will have a good laugh either way.

Now for gift ideas:

For the sentimental momma I would suggest getting her a necklace or ring from the new scrambled collection with a name or a special message to her.

For the traveling momma I love the idea of getting her the whole world.

For the momma who misses her home I would suggest a state or country necklace. Head to the shop and type her state or country in the search box.

Anatomy of tiny gold Michigan

In the last Anatomy of post I shared what goes into the World Map Necklace. The tiny gold Michigan is much less complicated but it’s still fun to look at the parts of the whole.

I start out by hand cutting the tiny Michigan out of 14K gold fill. Next it get’s hammered and then I drill the tiny hole for the jump ring. After that I hand sand all the edges (very carefully since it’s so small) before tumbling it to smooth the edges and make it super shiny.

Finally a jump ring is added and it’s hung on the chain. Then I put it on because Michigan is my home state and I can’t get enough. This is actually the one I where almost every single day!

What about Philadelphia?

This summer Walker and I might finally be heading out to Philadelphia! We have been wanting to plan a trip for quite a while to visit some friends there but we could never settle on a time to go. Turns out Walker has a conference there for work so it’s the perfect time to make a trip out of it. I wish there was a way I could get my plane ticket paid for also. Anyone know of any shops I could visit with while I’m there to make it a business trip? Kidding, but I do want to hear of cool shops!

I honestly have no idea what to expect. I’ve heard a few stories but not quite enough to have a good picture of what I think it would be like. Luckily our friends will know where to take us but I like to be a little prepared with a few places to eat and a few fun must sees around the city.
